Mark Lanegan – 6th July 2010 – The Zoo
Mark Lanegan played at The Zoo on the 6th of July, very cool show. I've seen him play several times, previously at the Zoo in 2007 with The Twilight Singers and at Splendour 2009 as part of The Gutter Twins, again with Greg Dulli from Afghan Wigs. He played at the Zoo a few years earlier too, with a full band, don't remember the date. Mark Lanegan's always a challenge to shoot, he does like it dim. I used a monopod for these, haven't had to do that in a while..click these photos to see bigger versions.
The low lighting makes perfect sense with the show though, he has a massive voice, and a rare prescence as a performer. People don't chit chat when he sings, that voice just commands your attention.
If you're not familiar with his work you really should become acquainted. Here is as good a place to start as any I guess: http://www.myspace.com/marklanegan Tons of info here too.
Violent Soho – 24th July 2010 – The Zoo
x
Violent Soho played their first hometown gig since returning from a 100 or so shows around the US over the last year. Supports were The Seizures, Butcher Birds and Scul Hazzards. It was a sensational concert, energetic, loud and super fun to shoot as always, the band sounded huge.
Check them out here myspace.com/violentsoho
Violent Soho play Splendour in the Grass next Friday at 1 pm, and then head off for another bunch of US shows through August and September. Go see them if you can!

Splendour in the Grass 2009
The Flaming Lips - Splendour in the Grass 2009.
I just realised I haven't put up any photos from Splendour 2009 yet, they were published all over, Rolling Stone, Jmag, Timeoff, Inpress and Drum. Shooting The Flaming Lips last year was seriously a highlight of my music photography career so far, utterly amazing, quite an experience to be amongst it all..
Splendour 2010 is looming, 2010 will be my 10th Splendour in a row, I've shot them all since 2001. Heavens! Here's a quick look back at last year:

The Pixies – 18th March 2010
I first saw the Pixies at the V Festival 2007 show, you can see a few photos from that show here . I've loved the band since first hearing the 'Come on Pilgrim' mini album, which came out in 1987. That was 23 years ago! I have all the albums since, not a dud among them. The band broke up in 1993, I was sure I'd never see them, then they reformed in 2004, and bam!, there were the Pixies at Vfest 2007, and now twice in 2010.
Frank Black's voice is still a thing to behold, the songs are still amazing, Joey Santiago was awesome, and Kim Deal was smiling! Do see them at Splendour if you can, doesn't look like there will be any sideshows : (

Wilco 30th April 2010
Wilco played at The Tivoli in Brisbane last Friday, they're one of my all time favourite bands, I've seen them I think four times, they've been amazing each time. Always a challenge to shoot, there is so much going on, but I inevitably end up focusing on Jeff Tweedy, I get the impression he's not the biggest fan of being photographed, but there is such character in his face. If you get the chance to see Wilco don't miss it! Tour dates and all things Wilco here : www.wilcoworld.net

Justin Townes Earle – 7th April 2010 The Zoo
Justin Townes Earle played at The Zoo on the 7th of April, brilliant show, I'd heard a lot about him, but hadn't expected to enjoy it as much as I did, loved it, the guy is a brilliant entertainer, had the crowd laughing one minute, and in tears the next, no really! Check him out here http://www.myspace.com/justintownesearle more photos in the gallery below.

Roll Credits – The End of Rock and Roll
Well the exhibition is all over, it's been such a great experience, I've learned so much over the six months leading up to the show. Sales were way beyond my expectations, thanks so much to everyone who bought a picture, I can do another show now!
Huge thanks to The Brisbane Powerhouse for presenting the exhibition, extra thanks to Jody Haines, the BPH Visual Arts Coordinator, who was awesome to work with. Thanks to Streets for the printing, and to Hayden Andrews at Brendale Custom Framing, for doing such a quality job on the frames.
Big thanks to Jo, Craig and Kate for help and hints on PR/ Marketing, and to Aaron Sammut for his brilliant poster design.
Thanks so much to Sil, Justin, Kel, Alex, Laila, Vanessa and Kate for their help and input editing the final 500 photos down to 50, that would have been impossible on my own...
Thanks to Timeoff for their support over the years, and the opportunity to shoot so many amazing shows, and thanks to The Courier Mail, Jmag, Whothehell, 4000, Our Brisbane, and everyone else who gave the show some press.
Thanks finally to everyone who took the time to check out the exhibition, I really appreciate it, it's been great to see people enjoying the work.
There are still photos left over of course, if you're interested just let me know? I'd love for them all to find a home. There's a gallery below of all the photos in the show, just email me here if one catches your eye? Thanks!
The Dead Weather – 23rd March 2010
(Click for a larger version)
The Dead Weather played at The Tivoli last night, awesome show, louder, dirtier and more raw than I had expected. Loved it. Here's Alison Mosshart, more photos to come, the lighting was a challenge but tons of fun to shoot. As my friend L said, too much sexy : )

The Exhibition opens on Tuesday the 2nd of March, from 6-9pm and runs until April the 5th 2010. It features my 50 favourite photos from 15 years of music photography. The framed prints will be for sale, I'm still working out the price, but they will be affordable. There are 50 large 30x20 inch prints on heavy photo paper, really classy black frames with white matte. They look really great, if I do say so myself..
I'm updating this pretty frequently, and you can see some info on the show at The Brisbane Powerhouse site here.
See you there!
