Some favourites from 2010.
It's been an eventful year, the lead up to my exhibition was pretty crazy, going through 15 years work was quite an experience, and the exhibition itself was a significant landmark to me, it was a very strange feeling walking into the Powerhouse on opening night and seeing the entire building full of my photos. Apologies to anyone who saw my 'speech' I still have no idea what I said.. Thanks so much to everyone who came and saw the show!
Rock and Roll at The Brisbane Powerhouse.
After the show I had every intention of adopting a less is more attitude to shooting, to be a bit more selective, and not let myself get quite as snowed under with hundreds, if not thousands of images to deal with every week. It worked, a bit, though somehow my plan of 2010 being a quieter year still ended up with me shooting 181 bands at 66 shows and 5 festivals at about 20 different venues. Sigh..
The Dead Weather ........................................Wilco
In 2010 my work was published in Timeoff, Jmag, Rolling Stone, The Courier Mail, The Australian and Yen Magazine to name a few, The State Library of Queensland now has 8 of my photos in it's permanent collection, as do the 30+ awesome individuals who bought prints from my exhibition so far. I licensed photos to one feature film and one TV series, and shot promotional photos for Texas Tea and Halfway, with my Gin Club, Seja, We All Want To, An Horse and Robert Forster photos getting a decent run through the year too.
This set of 25 photos were hard to chose, I picked an arbitrary number, and just went with the ones taken in 2010 that I though were successful as photos, most were published somewhere, though a few are personal favourites that never made it to print.

Paul Weller – 19th October 2010
Paul Weller played at The Tivoli in October, great show, though I'm honestly not that familiar with his recent albums, his voice is still super impressive, as is his stage presence. Plenty for the Jam fans too, the set list is the last pic in the gallery below.
Here's a fave Jam clip, there's something about the way Weller attacks a microphone, he still does it, 33 years later.

Velociraptor – Valley Fiesta 2010
Velociraptor played Valley Fiesta this year, they're a great Brisbane band with what seems to be a floating line up of between 5 to 12 members. I've seen them a few times now, including a memorable set in a friend's lounge room. They're fun, loud and raucous, and their songs are catchy as hell.
Velociraptor, part Kinks, part Cramps, part Sonics, all wall of noise rock party, check out "Hey Suzanne" you'll be humming it for days. Go see them when you get the chance, if they're not huge in 6 months we may as well give the keys to the planet to Short Stack and forget this whole Rock and Roll thang...

Wilco 30th April 2010
Wilco played at The Tivoli in Brisbane last Friday, they're one of my all time favourite bands, I've seen them I think four times, they've been amazing each time. Always a challenge to shoot, there is so much going on, but I inevitably end up focusing on Jeff Tweedy, I get the impression he's not the biggest fan of being photographed, but there is such character in his face. This was the view from Red Hill in Brisbane at about 12.30. Usually this spot has great city views, today you couldn't see a single building in the city. So odd.
