17th March 2010

Well, that was an awfully busy month! The exhibition is completely printed, framed and hung, it looks great! I'll get some photos up here soon. Thanks so much again to The Brisbane Powerhouse for having me, and particularly to Jody Haines the BPH Visual Arts Coordinator who has helped me so much with the whole project. I've been overwhelmed by the response, it's great to see people enjoying the work, It's inspired me to have another show in the not too distant future.

I had an opening night on the 2nd of March, which unfortunately coincided with a massive storm, and was a school night to boot. I was totally amazed at how many people did make it though, thankyou! For people who missed that first night, or would just like to check it out again, I'm going down to the Powerhouse this Friday the 19th after 6pm to have a beer and take  another look while it's still up, come along if you haven't had a chance to see it yet!

And the word for the week is: Detail.

Press release being edited, the framed prints are stacking up, the wall of bubble wrap steadily taking over more and more of my office.. Posters nearly done, have to make some ads from the poster. Working on the sequence of the show, I had originally thought it would be chronological but have ditched that,  should have the exhibition planned out by Friday.. Still chasing more press, getting a good reaction so far. Also working on a list of photos and  info cards for each photo. Must also start a facebook event, put some more  on myspace, and tidy up my mailing list... Opening night is going to be on Tuesday the 2nd of March, more info on that soon!

11th Feb 2010

Picked up another six framed photos today, it's so cool to see these photos I've been working on for so long in their finished form ready to go on the wall. Spent the rest of the day working on a press release, there's a fair bit of interest in the exhibition already, Timeoff and Jmag are running stories, other papers and mags are looking good! Opening night will be in the first week of March, I'm confirming the actual date in the next couple of days. Posters / postcards in the works... More work on publicity tomorrow.

2nd Feb 2010

Picked up the first two framed prints today, they look great, I'm so happy with them, they're going to look brilliant on the wall. I'm taking them into BPH tomorrow for a test run, and to start thinking about how to sequence the show. The exhibition will cover the entire ground floor of the Powerhouse, and also the downstairs foyer of the Visy theatre.

I'm thinking so far that the layout will be basically chronological, but with a few photos grouped up that I think have to be together. I'm going to print small colour laser prints of the show and mooch about in the Powerhouse for an afternoon working it out, probably next week. Here's a quick phone camera look at the first two prints to be framed...

Picked up photos from the printer today, they look great, so happy! Huge sense of relief. They're at the framers now, will have a couple of framed prints to take in to the Powerhouse next Tues. Sneak peek:

Well, that was a hell of a week, got the 500 down to 50, and delivered them all to the printers this morning..I pick them up on Friday and it's off to the framers.. It's been hundreds of hours of work, a whole  lot of stress and aarghh! I completely hit the wall maybe 2 weeks ago, trying to choose my favorite photos from 15 years of work was just so hard. Thanks so much to Laila, Sil, Justin, Kel,  Alex and Vanessa for their help and kind counsel, it would have been impossible without fresh eyes.

I'm really happy with my selection for the show, for now at least, it's going to look awesome, if I do say so myself.

Tomorrow I'm going to have my first day off in at least a month. Fingers crossed that the prints are all cool..

I'm showing fifty of my favorite music photos from the last fifteen years, it's been a massive job but I'm really happy with how it's coming together. Off to the printers in a few days...

Currently in the thick of editing a 500 photo shortlist down to 50 for the show.. not bad going as I started out with around 30,000.... more info soon
